Queen Wilfred Urassa

Farm owner: Queen owns the farm
Farm size: ¾ acre
Crops grown: Bananas and vanilla

I started growing vanilla about seven years ago to generate more income. This enables me to sustain my family and raise my children, including medical expenses. Vanilla farming fits easily into my routine and enables me to carry out other activities – although it is more challenging when dealing with unexpected situations like a family member falling ill.

It isn’t always easy, especially with fluctuating prices and climate change. Hot weather and limited rain can cause the plants to wither. While price fluctuations are manageable since they can improve over time, the effects of climate change are more significant, leading to reduced yields and lower crop quality.
