Karen Serem Waithaka Joins the NEI Board

We’re delighted to announce that Karen Serem Waithaka, CEO of DOB Equity, has joined our Board of Directors.

With over 16 years of experience in impact investing, corporate finance, private equity and venture capital, Karen brings a wealth of expertise in developing and executing investment strategies tailored to diverse market conditions. Her proven track record in sourcing high-potential investment opportunities, fostering sustainable business growth and managing investor relations makes her a valuable addition to our leadership.

In her current role as Chief Executive Officer at DOB Equity, Karen leads the firm’s mission to build a portfolio of high-impact, scalable businesses in East Africa, with a focus on sustainable food systems, renewable energy, and water and sanitation services. She is responsible for driving investment origination, maximizing financial and social returns and fostering relationships with key stakeholders to support entrepreneurial ecosystems in the region.

Prior to joining DOB Equity, Karen was the Chief Investment Officer at Catalyst Fund, where she played a pivotal role in investment strategy development, deal sourcing, and portfolio management, leading investments in climate adaptation and resilience-focused startups across Africa. She also held leadership roles at Global Partnerships Social Venture Fund, Safaricom Spark Venture Fund, and TBL Mirror Fund, overseeing investment decisions, due diligence and portfolio growth.
